How do I exclude businesses in a query for a mailing list?

What is the criteria to exclude all businesses when creating a mailing list. I pulled up a saved query and had used

and companyname: like is empty

but its not giving me any accounts now

It all depends on how you enter the info, and which fields you want to query on.
